I have always had bad experiences with UHAUL but since they are the only company that will let you rent a trailer without a truck rental I had to go back to them. I made a reservation for a trailer, it was promised to me for 7/3/09 for 24 hours at the New Milford, CT location. When my fiance gets there, there is no trailer. Why? Because the customer that used it the day prior returned the trailer to NY when he was not supposed to. Of course no one can call us and let us know don't bother driving down here because we do not have the trailer that YOU RESERVED. What am I supposed to do now? All they could give us was a shrug of the shoulders. I also do not agree with their reservation process. The call agent tells you where the nearest pick-up location is but they do not know if what you are reserving is actually there. Then you wait for a phone call from the reservation department to call you sometime never and they don't even know when you are supposed to pick-up by or return???? You have to call the pick-up location and work that out with them. Why would a company make a customer make 3 different phone calls when this could all be handled in the 1st phone call?

Beware of renting a U-Haul Truck for your move!!! A lot of students rent trucks for their moves when the semester starts and since they have so many customers they can afford to treat you as dirt. Here is what happened to me: I reserved a U-Haul Truck in Madison for my out-of-state move. I reserved it for 3 days and the day before my move, I received a call from U-Haul confirming my reservation, giving me a confirmation number and I thought everything was fine- or so I thought. The morning of the move (1 hour before picking up the truck), I received a phone call from the local U-Haul dealer. He yelled at me on the phone and asked me how I dare to reserve a truck from him for three days during his busiest season. He said he wouldn't give me the truck. Since he couldn't back up from the reservation he would "change" it to an hourly reservation. If I didn't return the truck after an hour (which is impossible when you move out of state) he would charge me 5 times as much for every additional hour I kept his truck. I tried to call the U-Haul headquarters but since they were also busy I only got to talk to a customer representative, who wouldn't help me with my problem either. So, the day of my move I was stuck with my whole apartment boxed up, but without the truck I had reserved.

My experience was A++++. I don't know which location these other people are reviewing but the one in Council Bluffs on 32nd Ave is fantastic. Very friendly and competent staff. They made my moving day go a little easier. Thanks Carl.

In this area of the country, we expected to be treated nicely and with respect! We were treated like DIRT! The poor service started when we called and were left on hold for a VERY LONG TIME. We hung up and had to call back. We should have known then what the service going to be like = BAD! Then when we got the truck, it was DIRTY, and rickety, and just outright GROSS! We decided to leave and go down the street to rent from somewhere else. It was worth the extra time to start over.
